Heart finds comparisons to Marian's engagement 'unfair'

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Heart Evangelista is simply shrugging off bashers who claim her recent engagement to Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero is politically-motivated.

"You shouldn't [give] attention so much to these people," said the GMA-7 star when asked for an opinion on netizens connecting her engagement to Chiz's political plans, in an interview on Monday, during Pond's launch of its new product, Dewy Rose Whitening Soft Gel.

"That's really nothing to me because being with a politician changed my life permanently. Even little things that didn't get any attention [before]—my shoes, my bags—now everyone thinks they're connected to politics."

She added, "So that part I'm not really worried about. As long as you know the truth, it's fine."

"As a person, your survival instincts just kick in. You say, 'You know what, forget it, not worth of your time'," Heart explained.

On dealing with bashers in general, Heart said: "You really have to be a superwoman to really ignore totally all these bashers because tao rin kami and it really gets to us."

The newly-engaged actress said Chiz is the one who tells her to ignore the hurtful comments.

"So he's really my rock. He calms me down," she said of Chiz. "It's not his world also, e. He has a different world compared to what I do. So he really just ignores it. And I'm really lucky to have someone like that."

'I'm so happy for her'

Heart is also aware there are those who compare her engagement to the engagement of fellow GMA-7 stars Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes.

"I think it's unfair because Marian and I, we come from different worlds. I've been in the industry for 16 years, also," she explained when asked about the bashers who compare her engagement to Marian and Dingdong's. "I don't understand why there is this constant comparison. I think it has something to do with a fight we [had] before."

It can be recalled that Heart and Marian had a falling out in 2011 while working on the comedy movie Temptation Island.

Heart admits she's still careful when addressing issues concerning Marian, but she is nonetheless happy for Marian over her upcoming wedding.

"Kaya hinahayaan ko na lang," she said regarding the bashers. "But everybody deserves a happy ending. So from my heart to hers, I'm so happy for her (Marian)."

She added, "And I'm also happy for myself and that I have no more room for negativity to ruin my moment now."

Career changes?

Now that Heart is about to get married, does she see her career changing along with her marital status?

"Definitely there will be changes. But I'll still be working. I love to work," she said. "But maybe I won't be doing how I used to do it. Maybe I won't be doing soap operas over and over. Probably I'd want a nice soap once a year."

Heart added she sees herself doing more hosting work after getting married.

"I'm very comfortable with hosting, sharing my thoughts and my opinions about other things. I like doing that. That's how I started, with MYX, anyway," she said. "I think it's just right. I think with my age and everything, I think I'm growing in that area."
