Celebs, netizens mourn Mark Gil's death

MANILA, Philippines – Colleagues, friends and fans took to Twitter to express their grief over the death of veteran actor Mark Gil.

Gil died of liver cirrhosis on Monday, September 1. He was 52.

In a Facebook post, Sharon Cuneta said: “I just received news that Mark Gil passed away this morning ... As you all know, he was Cherie's brother, and a very talented actor. May God comfort his family during this time of mourning. My and my family's deepest condolences.”

“R.I.P to one of the best people you could meet ... He was an amazing actor and person. You will be truly missed Tito Ralph. My prayers go out to your family,” GMA-7 actress Sarah Lahbati, who worked with Gil in the 2012 soap opera “Makapiling Kang Muli,” posted on her Instagram account.

Maja Salvador, who worked with Gil on the ABS-CBN soap opera “The Legal Wife” said on her Instagram account: “My daddy Dante I will miss you.” Dante is the name of Gil's character on The Legal Wife.

Gil's fans also thanked him on social media for his contribution to cinema and television as an actor.

He last appeared on television via the GMA-7 soap opera “My Husband's Lover” in 2013 and “The Legal Wife” in 2014. He also appeared in the 2013 movie “A Philippino Story” and the 2014 movie “Ang Bagong Dugo.”

"It was a real privilege to have met Mark Gil. He had real enthusiasm for everything he did," tweeted film critic Philbert Dy. He added: "He was one of the warmest people I've ever met. He just seemed to enjoy being around people."

In a statement sent to media outfits, Gil's manager June Rufino said the actor's family "is in deep grieving and they want private time with him."
