MANILA, Philippines - The late Fernando Poe Jr. received a long-deserved recognition for his major contributions to the local horseracing industry during his birth anniversary last Aug. 20 when the prime road inside the MetroTurf in Malvar-Tanuan, Batangas was dedicated to the “Da King.”
The MetroTurf is the home of the Metro Manila Turf Club, Inc. (MMTI), the third racetrack in the country and the newest in Asia today situated in Malvar-Tanuan, Batangas.
“The Metro Manila Turf Club is dedicating this main road inside our complex to Fernando Poe Jr. who made major contributions to the local horseracing industry. He is a real horseman and a true-blue racing aficionado who loved both horses and the racing industry. I have known him and shared with him our passion for racing and breeding horses,” said MMTI president Dr. Norberto Quisumbing Jr., whose love and vision for the local horseracing industry brought another world-class racetrack in the country.
Among those present during the event were MMTI VP for treasury Joy Quisumbing, Betchie Quisumbing, Malvar Vice Mayor Cristeta Reyes, Lorna Lim, Googie Catajan of the trainers’ association, New Philippine Jockeys Association president Gilbert Francisco and many others.
