MANILA, Philippines – Filipino celebrities are also taking on the worldwide ALS ice bucket challenge trend.
The ALS ice bucket challenge, a social media stunt has that turned viral over the past few weeks, aims to raise awareness about the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Those challenged to do the ALS ice bucket challenge have to post a video of themselves being doused by ice cold water or donate $100 for ALS research, although many celebrities do both.
Among the local celebrities who have done the ice bucket challenge include newly-engaged couple Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, who posted the video on Sunday, August 24.
It was GMA-7 artist Julie Ann San Jose who nominated Dingdong and Marian to do the challenge.
“Donation done. I hope that the ultimate purpose of this campaign will reach its goal,” Dingdong said.
He nominated Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman, and senator Bam Aquino, TV host Vic Sotto, GMA-7 actor Rodjun Cruz, and Marian's friends Ana Feleo and Roxanne Barcelo to do the challenge.
Aga Muhlach also did the ice bucket challenge after being nominated by friend Lea Salonga.
Although he posted the video, the actor said he'll make the donation for ALS research upon Lea's suggestion.
Lea, who posted her ice bucket challenge video on August 21, said she did the challenge in honor of her husband Robert Charles Chien's uncle who died due to ALS.
TV5 star Derek Ramsay also did the ice bucket challenge and nominated, among others, TV host-actress Kris Aquino.
The ice bucket challenge has become a worldwide viral trend and has been taken on by Hollywood stars such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, James Franco, and Lady Gaga, among others.
