In the late ’60s, Mexico’s Trio Los Panchos performed at the Araneta Coliseum, filling the Big Dome with beautiful Spanish songs Filipinos have learned to love.
The more familiar songs included Besame Mucho, Angelitos Negros, Jurame, Estrellita, Malagueña, Reloj, Historia de un Amor, Noche Azul, Paloma and Granada.
The Manila visit also gave Trio Los Panchos the chance to sing and promote their self-titled album whose cuts contained Filipinas, Manila, Manila, Manila and Plantar Arroz (Planting Rice).
The other songs in the album: Y No Me Ofendas, Siete Notas de Amor, No Tienes Compasion, En El Fondo del Mar and Mi Amor.
Sadly, it seems Spanish songs have been forgotten by Filipinos. — RKC
