Body Talk with Joseph Marco

They say take one step at a time, and that’s exactly how he did it. As an actor, Joseph Marco patiently climbed the career ladder. He’s patiently making his way to the top through hard work and determination, and he’s doing really well.

He has a dozen of TV commercials, with the most recent one for Coca-Cola Mismo and has appeared in the Kapamilya soaps Sabel and Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala. But what turned the tide for Marco was his remarkable performance as Elai in the much-loved series Honesto, also by Kapamilya. He played Honesto’s somewhat dim-witted uncle, but his unbelievably charming smile negated all the character’s shortcomings and conquered the hearts of the viewers.

It opened more doors for Joseph who now stars as Dave, the leading man in the top-rated Pure Love on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida, where he co-stars with Alex Gonzaga and Yen Santos. In this adaptation of the 2011 Koreanovela megahit 49 Days, Joseph’s Dave is an apathetic man who acts like he does not have a care in the world when actually it’s just his defense mechanism for having been hurt in the past.

IN the Viva Films/Skylight Films joint venture Talk Back and You’re Dead (based on the best-selling novel), Joseph plays Red (with matching red hair) in a love triangle with Nadine Lustre and James Reid.

In real life, which character are you more like, Red from Talk Back or Dave from Pure Love?

“I think I’m a combination of both. Dave and Red are different from each other. David is a reserved, serious man who is in control of everything he does while Red is the expressive, ‘siga’ type who outwardly fights for what he wants. But at the end of the day, both characters have this in common – they are very caring, thoughtful and loyal to the people they love. That would be me, I’m the common denominator between the two.”

What’s your regular workout?

“Basketball. I do crunches and push-ups daily. But basketball is the best outlet for my pent-up energy. It’s also a great stress reliever.”

What part of your body is most vulnerable?

“My knees. I play a lot of basketball and my knees do a lot of hard work. But there’s no major problem with it.”

What part of your body is your favorite?

“My chest.”

What part of a girl’s body do you notice first?

“My eyes.”

What else in a girl turns you on?

“The butt.”

And what turns you off?

“Pretentions and lies. Simply look at a girl’s eyes and you can tell if she’s not telling the truth.”

Do you have a girlfriend?

“No.”

What kind of diet do you follow?

“I haven’t eaten rice in years. And I drink lots of water.”

What’s usually for breakfast, lunch and dinner… and snacks?

“For breakfast, cereals. That’s one thing I couldn’t live without. For lunch and dinner, mostly fish, anything high on fiber or protein. For snacks, fruits.”

Food that you always crave for… food that you don’t like.

“I always crave for pasta, particularly Spaghetti Aglio e Olio. I’m not a fan of sweets.”

How much water do you take per day?

“Around 15 glasses.”

How much sleep do you get per night?

“I’m really busy right now, so I’m really lucky if I get four hours.”

How many pillows do you sleep with?

“Not really. I could do with just a single pillow, or maybe two.”

Do you snore?

“Not that I know of.”

Do you talk in your sleep?

“I don’t think so.”

Do you sleepwalk?

“No.”

Do you sleep in the nude?

“No. I wear boxers.”

Last thing that you do before you go to sleep?

“I pray. I thank God for all the blessing, they seem to be pouring in lately.”

First thing that you do a soon as you wake up.

“Wash my face to feel awake, then drink lots of water.”

How’s your love life?

“Zero! I’m focused my work. I’ve found something that I’m passionate about. So for now, I think I’m loyal to my job.”

How’s your sex life?

“Non-existent. Like I said, I’m loyal to my job.”

How do you cope with stress?

“I play basketball, or play the guitar. Sports and music are the best stress busters.”

How do you unwind?

“I travel. It’s the best way to escape. When there’s time, I go away for just a few days. I’m always a recharged person when I come back, like I’m running on fully-charged batteries again.”

Favorite city?

“London. I think the best of everything is there. I’ll never get used to its beauty, no matter how many times I go there.”

Favorite hideaway?

“My bedroom.”

Name three women that you find sexy.

“Shailene Woodley, Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson”

And three men that you think have bodies as nice as yours.

“Well I’m not going to say that my body is even half as good as theirs. But the men whose bodies I’m working out for are: David Gandy, Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling.”

Using only body language, how would you make a girl know that you admire her?

“If I really like someone, I think it would be rude to just use body language. I’ll approach her and talk to her.”
