MANILA, Philippines - GMA Network talents carved out success at the Cinemalaya X awards night, held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines last Aug. 10, as they bagged major acting awards.
One of the most respected actors and Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real’s Robert Arevalo was named Best Actor for his astounding performance in the film Hari ng Tondo, under the Directors Showcase category. Arevalo won for his remarkable portrayal of a self-made man from Tondo who finds himself on the brink of losing his wealth.
Veteran actor and Niño’s Dante Rivero was recognized as Best Actor in the New Breed category, for his unparalleled acting in 1st ko si 3rd. Rivero was lauded for his performance as an unemotional husband to Nova Villa’s character in a story about a retiree who sees her first love eye to eye again — after decades.
The Half Sisters star Barbie Forteza took home the Best Supporting Actress accolade for her unforgettable stint in the film Mariquina, under the New Breed category. She was recognized for her touching portrayal as the teenage daughter of a top-notch shoemaker.
Child actor Miggs Cuaderno takes the spotlight as he bagged the Best Supporting Actor award for the film, Children’s Show. The My BFF and Tropang Potchi star proves that he can already handle mature roles through his realistic portrayal of a child being exploited by a syndicate for an underground wrestling match, drawing heartfelt reactions from the moviegoers.
Meanwhile, Cris Villonco, who will star in the upcoming GMA Afternoon Prime series Ang Lihim ni Annasandra, was hailed Best Supporting Actress in the Directors Showcase category. Cris’ heartfelt portrayal of a loving granddaughter to Arevalo’s character earned her the award.
Also among the victors were Elmo Magalona and Chynna Ortaleza. They were among the #Y cast who received a Special Citation for Ensemble Acting under the New Breed category.
