News5 holds Taxi Squad workshop

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - TV5’s News and Information arm News5 continues its public service through its one-of-a-kind Taxi Squad, the fast-growing community of volunteer taxi drivers in the Philippines who serve as citizen journalists while on the road.

The Taxi Squad has over 1,100 members serving as News5’s extra eyes, ears and informers on various newsworthy events as they navigate the streets daily.

To reinforce the effectiveness of the campaign for citizen journalism, News5 recently organized a workshop for Taxi Squad members at the Tanghalang Pasigueño, Pasig City Hall Complex.

The Nasa Tama workshop included in-depth discussions led by notable speakers tackling key topics such as Road Rules (by Police Senior Superintendent Col. Edwin Butacan — chief of Human Resources Management and Doctrine Development Division, Highway Patrol Group), Financial Empowerment (Vic Garcia, president and CEO, Unleash International) and Health & Wellness (Edinell Calvario, host of Healing Galing).

A highlight of the workshop was when Radyo5 anchorman Raffy Tulfo paid a visit and spent time with the attendees.

News5 also has several other activities planned for the rest of the year, beginning with the nationwide leg of the Nasa Tama workshop for the Taxi Squad members based in Cebu and Davao in August.

Taxi Squad’s Nasa Tama workshop was also made possible through the support of the following sponsors: Talk ‘N Text, Goldilocks, Unleash International, Cobra, Robust and Rexona.
