Visayan royalty in Tagalog movie

REMEMBER WHEN? - Danny Dolor - The Philippine Star

Mat Ranillo Jr. and Gloria Sevilla, King and Queen of Visayan movies, teamed up in a Tagalog movie in the ’60s, Sa Dulo ng Ating Landas, co-starring Alona Alegre.

Another Visayan, Pilita Corrales, Asia’s Queen of Song, had a special performance in the movie.

Mat died in a plane crash in the late ’60s. Gloria went on with her life and career, Glo remarried (to actor-diplomat Amado Cortez) and appeared in movies and television, some which she and Amado produced.

In the ’80s, they stayed in the United States, where Amado served as consul-general in San Francisco, California. Amado died a few years back. Glo remains active onscreen, big and small. —RKC
