MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada shrugged off accusations against his grandson, actor Jolo Estrada, based on Instagram photos showing his alleged lavish lifestyle that have been making rounds in the cyberspace.
One of the photos shows a new pair of Jolo's Louis Vuitton shoes that costs thousands. There are also photos of a presidential suite at the Manila Hotel, which can be booked for over P100,000 a night.
"Sapatos lang 'yan, e kayang-kaya niyang mabili," Estrada told PEP.ph's Arniel Serato in a report Wednesday. "Sapatos lang."
Jolo is a son of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, who has been detained for plunder over the pork barrel fund scam.
The Manila mayor also denied that the family owns a private jet, where Jolo is shown to be riding in one photo. No relative even has a helicopter, he added.
"Anon'g private jet? Kasiraan lang 'yun," he said.
Jolo's uncle, Jude, explained that Jinggoy's son one-night stay at the hotel's presidential suite was complimentary.
Blogs criticized Jolo for having a "superstar" lifestyle amid allegations of plunder against Jinggoy. It is not certain, however, if the Intagram account was made by the young actor. He is also said to be maintaining another Instagram private account, @jololuisman. - Camille Diola
