Maricar Riesgo: Born to sing & perform

MANILA, Philippines - Maricar Riesgo was born to sing and perform.

Her first taste of public recital was at the tender age of 10, her debut community performance at 15, and her first competitive experience at the young age of 16. By the time she turned 17, she was hailed as the grand champion in the televised Rachel Alejandro Sing-Alike competition.

Determined to pursue her passion for singing, she found herself front lining at the Anchor Bar of the Army Navy Club, and performing regularly at Manila Midtown, Philippine Columbian and The Holiday Inn.

In 2006, Maricar bagged the second place in the grand finals of the national televised Japan Karaoke Grand Prix aired in TBS network of Japan.

In the Filipino communities in Japan, she is well-known as the most-awarded champion of UTAWIT, the grandest Filipino singing competition for Japanese-Filipinos in the country.

A music advocate at heart, she develops an affinity with various genres and enjoys tremendously the dynamics and rapport she develops with other musicians, vocalists and performers. This innate love for the musical world, both for its creative nature and business rudiments, coupled with her disciplined professionalism, led her to become one of the top caliber vocalists in Tokyo. In September, 2011, she became the only Filipina regular lead in Kentos, a high-class musical venue in the center of glitzy Ginza.

Maricar’s music coverage allows her to establish a wide range of following with both local and international audience. Her chameleon looks and style blend justifiably her versatility in doing standards, R&B, ballads and bossa nova.

She is a most requested artist that can cross borders in the Japan live music arena. Aside from Kentos and the NB Club, she has appeared in NHK television. Her 2011 concert in JZBrat at the Cerrulean Tower in Shibuya was sold out four days after the box office opened for reservations.

Maricar is grateful for the rare opportunity to have her debut self- titled album under the helm of composer Vehnee Saturno.
