MANILA, Philippines - In preparation for the school opening today, TV5 participated in the 2014 Brigada Eskwela Kick-off of the Department of Education (DepEd) at the Dalandanan National High School in Valenzuela City.
Aligned with this year’s Brigada Eskwela theme Making Schools Safer, the Kapatid Network, led by its emergency response unit, Rescue5, installed exit signs in the school to help students evacuate safely during an emergency situation.
‘We want to instill in children the importance of safety. Rescue5 has been very active in teaching disaster preparedness in public elementary schools,’ said TV5 Public Service head Sherryl Yao (rightmost).
News5 anchor Paolo Bediones, together with Kapatid stars Akihiro Blanco (leftmost), Nicole Estrada and Mark Neumann, were joined by more than a hundred TV5 volunteers in cleaning the classrooms and repainting the corridors.
This month, Rescue5 will launch the Sinugbuanong Binisaya edition of its disaster preparedness activity book for kids affected by the Bohol earthquake.
The Waray edition was given out to kids affected by Supertyphoon Yolanda in Tacloban City, while its Tagalog edition was distributed to kids affected by the Habagat flooding in Mega Manila.
