JC de Vera: No time for love

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines – JC De Vera, whose last relationship ended more than two years ago, said he chooses not to fall in love for the mean time as his career gets a second wind on ABS-CBN.

“Choice ko siya, kasi magiging unfair naman sa girl kapag, halimbawa, pumasok ako sa isang relasyon na wala talaga akong oras talaga para kanya,” he told members of the press during his launch as the first endorser of watchline Tomato Time on Sunday.

The “Moon of Desire” star is not closing his doors to love, but admits he wouldn't be able to give anyone the time and effort required in a romantic relationship.

“Gusto ko kapag dumating yung time na yun, gusto ko makakapagbigay ako ng sobra-sobrang effort para doon sa girl. And sa ngayon, I can say na hindi ko kayang ibigay yun kasi nga, wala pa akong time,” JC said. “Kapag may nakikita akong babae, parang naghohold back ako kasi hindi ko mabibigay yung time and effort ko.”

The ABS-CBN talent's last relationship was with TV5 star Danita Paner. The two became a couple in 2011 after doing a primetime show with the Kapatid network. He was also linked to former onscreen partner Rhian Ramos.

Tomato Time, the watchline of local retail brand Tomato, is JC De Vera's first endorsement deal since he moved to ABS-CBN last year

Right timing

JC is clearly one of the busier stars in the Kapamilya network right now. He currently stars in two shows: the primetime drama “The Legal Wife” and the afternoon soap opera “Moon of Desire.” He also starred in the Regal Films movie “So It's You,” which premiered early this month.

“Blessed lang ako, saka isama mo na yung pagiging swerte. Ito naman, hindi ko plinano. Siguro si God, meron talaga siyang right timing for everything. Siguro ito yung binigay niya sa akin na timing,” he said.

JC was with TV5 from 2010 to early 2013, although he got his start in showbiz on GMA-7 in 2003.

Would the actor say his move to ABS-CBN from TV5 was the right decision?

“Siguro ayokong sabihing it's the right decision,” he said. “Masasabi ko na it's a matured decision. Kasi hindi ko siya pinagisipan, hindi ako nag-dawalang isip na mag-transfer.”

JC shared he treats his work on “The Legal Wife” and “Moon of Desire” as his “last cards.”

“Every scene na ginagawa ko sa ABS-CBN, very challenging. As in totally different world na itong pinasok ko. Kailangan ko maging mature, kailangan ko maging matino pagdating sa pag-arte. Kasi, for me, I treat this as my last,” he said. “Syempre, hoping ako na hindi, pero tini-treat ko siya as my last, ito na yung last cards ko. So binibuhos ko lahat ng kaya kong ibigay.”
