MANILA, Philippines- Kyla is excited about her latest album “Journey.â€
This could be considered Kyla’s comeback album after four years of hiatus from the music scene. She admitted that her wedding in 2011, pregnancy shortly after and allotting time to take care of her son were the reasons for it—yet she regrets nothing.
“Para sa akin okay lang kasi na-enjoy ko ‘yong time na ‘yon na nagpahinga rin,†she said, noting that she's been in the industry for 15 years now. “At least I have no regrets, I saw my son grow up, I was able to take care of him, ganyan.
“It was also part of maturity, of growing up di ba, like iba siya, it’s very fulfilling. It’s different from having a new album...having a new album kasi is like having a new baby, di ba? It’s very different, siyempre buhay ‘yon di ba?â€
She is also glad that through this album, she was able to offer something new to her fans as she now has a deeper and more mature take on the songs she sings.
“Mas naging sensitive ata ako when singing songs, mas naging heartfelt,†she replied when asked if being a mother had an effect on her as an artist. “Siguro with the songs that I wrote and most of the songs in the album, six tracks lang naman din ‘yon, mas may maturity.
“I wrote two songs lang, but the other songs, like the way I sang it, siguro mas may maturity, probably ‘yong pagiging mother, a parent, kasama na rin ‘yon sa growth, being a wife also, a family person.â€
In her new album, Kyla tried on different genres on tracks “I Got This†and “Kunwa-kunwari Lang.â€
The R&B Princess said that trying new genres is like a breath of fresh air for every artist since it helps them discover or rediscover themselves.
But for this album, she didn’t completely veer away from the genre where she became known which is R&B.
“Actually ‘yong ibang songs naman dito mayro’n siyang touch of little bit of jazz,†she said about the album. “So I really want to ano, infuse it also with some of the songs. Actually even sa [album] na Private Affairs, mayro’n na siyang a little bit of jazz.
“Pero we can’t go all the way jazz, e, kasi siyempre ‘yong mga listeners natin, ‘yong mga kabataan gusto nila ‘yong pop. Pero ako siyempre I want to venture din to something else, like a little bit of alternative, maybe collaborate with. So siguro darating din siguro ‘yan.â€
But now that she’s making a comeback and on her 15th year in the industry, Kyla was asked if she has plans of holding a big concert event.
“Ako na lang po magpo-produce ng concert!†she said with a hearty laugh.
But on a serious note she said, “hindi ko po alam, pero kasama po ‘yon sa plano ko. Pero when you say producing a concert, maraming hardships, maraming dapat gawin, mahirap din siya na gawin especially if I plan to do something big or something bigger.â€
