Kapuso Summer sails to Boracay

MANILA, Philippines - Summer gets even hotter as some of GMA Network’s biggest stars sail their way to one of the world’s best beach destinations — Boracay Island — to party with all Kapuso via the four-day revelry dubbed Kapuso Summer this weekend.

Kapuso Summer, an event organized by GMA Regional TV in partnership with the Municipality of Malay in Aklan, is marked by two celebrations — the Kapuso Weekend in Boracay on May 9 to 10 and the Kapuso Island Tour in Panay: The Boracay Kick-off on May 11 to 12. Both are set to happen at the beach front of the Pearl of the Pacific and Estacio Uno in Station 1.

Stepping into the island’s long stretch of powder-fine white sand for the Kapuso Weekend are Dennis Trillo, Tom Rodriguez, Mikael Daez, Rafael Rosell, Mike Tan, Rhian Ramos, LJ Reyes, Rochelle Pangilinan, Max Collins, Andrea Torres, Isabelle Daza, JC Tiuseco, Bettina Carlos, Pancho Magno, Arthur Solinap and Solenn Heussaff.

The merrymaking begins today at 2 p.m. with the Boracay Race, then the event’s ceremonial kick-off, wherein the 16 Kapuso celebrities will be divided into two teams and will later on face one another in a series of tough, exciting challenges that include a relay game, agawan bola, obstacle course, water battle, dodge ball and catch the dragon’s tail.

Some of these games serve as a prelude to what is considered as the day’s highlight at 8 p.m. —the Luau Night — featuring song-and-dance numbers from Mikael, Mike, Rhian, LJ, Rochelle, Max, Andrea, Isabelle, Bettina, Pancho, Arthur and Solenn.

The next day, May 10, jumpstarts with another set of games beginning at 9 a.m. and will resume at 3 p.m.  leading to the announcement of winners and awarding of certificates to the network’s partners.

Wrapping up the celebration on Saturday is a Kapuso Night bannered by Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, and hosted by Ate Redg.

Meanwhile, more surprises await beach lovers come May 11, as GMA Regional TV kicks off the first-ever Kapuso Island Tour in Panay with Boracay as its initial stop.

Geared up to dive into the island’s pristine blue waters are Dennis, JC, Rafael and Tom, who also get to participate in the Kapuso Beach Games at 9 a.m. and witness the Kapuso Inter-Department Volleyball at 2 p.m.

It’s grooving time at 4:30 p.m. with the Kapuso Zumba by the beach, followed by a night of amusement and laughter with the Comedy Night topbilled by TomDen. They will be joined by event hosts Pekto Nacua and Boobay.

On May 12 at 8 a.m., the network, in collaboration with the Boracay Foundation, Inc. (BFI), goes beyond entertainment as it spearheads the Kapuso sa Kalikasan: Beach Clean-Up that aims not only to clear the seaside of trash but to help restore and protect Boracay’s marine life as well. In the said activity, GMA Regional TV will turnover its donation for the Coral REEFurbishment project of BFI.
