BIR sues Zoren Legaspi for P4.45-M tax evasion

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed a tax evasion case against actor Zoren Legaspi before the Department of Justice Monday for misdeclaring his income.

BIR chief Kim Henares accused Legaspi of a "willful" attempt to supply inaccurate information on his income tax returns in 2010 and 2012, resulting in P4.45 million tax liabilities.

"A comparison of the documents showed he declared as gross income of P6.79 million in 2010 when it should be P9.64 million. And in 2012 P1.82 million when it should be P6.49 million," Henares said in a televised interview with media.

She said Legaspi deliberately skipped out on paying taxes.

"He substantially under-declared his income tax by 42 percent in 2010 and 25 percent in 2012," Henares added.

Before the case against Legaspi, the BIR recently sued businessman Cedric Lee, Philippine Medical Association president Leo Olarte and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.
