Mrs. Phl-Globe builds community of empowered women

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Mrs. Philippines-Globe is going beyond being a mere beauty pageant by organizing Empowerment Sessions, a gathering of past Mrs. Philippines-Globe contestants who can share their expertise in various fields to finalists of this year’s pageant.

“This is what Mrs. Philippines-Globe stands for. More than just a beauty pageant, its past contestants and winners have developed the habit of building up each other as any sister would do to the people she considers as family,” said national pageant director Morena Carla Cabrera-Quimpo.

Empowerment Sessions, a new component of Mrs. Philippines-Globe, will feature expert tips from the alumni of the pageant. Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2012 Joyce Agsaway, an F&B manager at EDSA Shangri-La, will speak about fine dining. Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2012 runner-up and international dancer-choreographer Maria Adelaida Paltu-ob will bring the class to the dancefloor for her Rhythm and Movement class. Solane Mother of the Year-Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2013 Jessie Lou Lucero, meanwhile, will take the contestants to the kitchen for a crash course on baking.

Maria Rizza Padilla Singson, Woman of Substance-Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2013, will lead a book review session on Anthony Robbins’ Awakening the Giant Within. Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2013 second runner-up Rachel Ann Felix will share tips on power dressing. Fashion director Raymond Villanueva will also give a talk on Pageant 101.

Mrs. Philippines-Globe 2014 is a nationwide search for women of substance fit to be the country’s representative to the global finals.

Mrs. Philippines-Globe is the local franchise of Mrs. Globe USA, an organization strongly affiliated with The Women In Need Foundation, which aims to help abused women and children recover their self-esteem.

These are women who do not let age and civil status get in the way of fulfilling their dreams, and whose achievements, charitable acts and life stories serve as inspiration to others. Only 20 official candidates will be chosen to compete for the coveted crown during the national pageant night set on May 17 at the SMX Aura Premiere in Bonifacio Global City. The winning candidate will represent the Philippines in the Mrs. Globe 2015 World Finals at Shenzhen, China in November.
