Art 2 Art April shows
MANILA, Philippines - Abstract painting and lepidoptery, Philippine folk dance, an annual Lenten exhibit and a 150-year-old literary legacy are showcased in Art 2 Art this month. Produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company and hosted by Lisa Macuja, Art 2 Art is aired Sundays at 3:30 p.m. on DZRH (666 khz on the AM band), on cable television via RHTV and online through DZRH Live Streaming at www.dzrh.com.ph.
Today, Justin “Tiny†Nuyda — recognized as one of the Philippine masters of Modernism and a co-founder of the famed Saturday Group — tells the story behind his Mindscape abstraction series. Also a lepidopterist, Nuyda shares how his interest in butterflies has become an inspiration for his paintings.
On April 13, Philippine Folk Dance Society president Josefina Guillen talks about her group’s mission to preserve and promote the country’s folk dances. Among its activities is the annual National Folk Dance Workshop for Teachers, this year set in May, which draws thousands of participants from various regions.
On April 20, Easter Sunday, visual, installation and performance artist Salvador “Buddy†Ching relates how a simple panata that he started in his native Bulacan has grown and become an annual Lenten tradition among artists. Now on its 13th year, the Kristo exhibit will be seen this year in Bulacan, Metro Manila and Iloilo.
On April 27, Art 2 Art focuses on Urbana at Feliza, a novel in correspondence form completed by Fr. Modesto de Castro in 1864 in Naic, Cavite. Ryan Sebastian, president of the Naic Historical Society, and Rev. Fr. Virgilio Saenz-Mendoza, parish priest of the Diocesan Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Naic, talk about the book which has been described as a guide on good manners as it celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
