Merk’s Place finds new home

Leah C. Salterio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - For more than a decade now, Merk’s Place, the popular restaurant and music lounge, continues to cater to a loyal clientele that patronizes not just its live entertainment but also the sumptuous dishes that it serves.

Top local artists and bands have taken centerstage at Merk’s Place — Martin Nievera, Kuh Ledesma, Gary Valenciano, Sharon Cuneta, Noel Cabangon, Cecile Licad and Annie Brazil — lending their stellar status to the venue and allowing it to become a byword in first-rate entertainment.

Even foreign artists like Kevyn Lettau, Angela Bofill, Pauline Wilson of Seawind fame, Renee Olstead and Eumir Deodato have likewise performed at Merk’s Place, thus giving recognition to the entertainment venue.

Owned by jazz prince Richard Merk and his wife Roni Tapia-Merk, Merk’s Place has brought entertainment not just around Metro Manila, from Makati to Quezon City, but even to the south (Tagaytay) and all around the country where the Advertising Congress is being held. Merk’s Place, as it is owned by an artist, lends credibility to providing quality entertainment.

Merk’s Place elevates the kind of quality entertainment that it has been known for and brings its esteemed reputation to Mandaluyong, as it opens another branch, this time at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.

During Happy Hour, sing-along with Janis from 6 to 8 p.m., while main show starts at 8:30 p.m. Cool Change will also perform while special solo shows and theater shows are also in the line-up.

Manila Pilipinas Like Kita, a musical showing the best of the Philippines, will be presented this month at EDSA Shangri-La, before and after its Canada (Toronto and Vancouver) performances. Cesar Montano leads the performers, with Ava Jagueta, Cacai Bautista, Richard Merk, Rachel Anne Wolfe, Janice Caraga and other versatile musical talents. The show is initiated by the Tourism and Promotions Board of the Department of Tourism.
