Long married couples give tips to newlywed celebrities

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines- With a number of showbiz personalities tying the knot recently, it is perhaps the best time to find out how to make one's marriage last.

These long married couples have revealed their secrets to a lasting marriage. On Tuesday,  these couples have been invited to a forum as Menarini launched their “Commit to Control PE” advocacy.

The campaign seeks  to spread awareness about the male sexual disorder called premature ejaculation, and encourage men to be more open about the issue and not be afraid to do something about it.

Besides maintaining intimacy between couples, Regine Tolentino and Lander Vera Perez said that an open communication is important, not only between couples but also with their children.

“I think ang pinaka-importante na natutunan ko talaga, kasi dati very quiet talaga ako, is communication,” Lander said. "Kahit anong gawin mo sa buhay, you should always communicate with your wife and of course your kids.

“‘Yon lang naman, e, and be honest. Always try to explore new things or do new things together.”

His wife Regine echoed the piece of advice: “Keep it fun, keep it fresh, always think ways of maintaining the spark in your relationship and not get bored of each other,” she related.

“It’s important to have fun but also maintain a level of romance and mystery with each other so that your relationship is not only strong but also long lasting.”

Meanwhile, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan and Anthony Pangilinan talked about how couples could use the help of "middle men" or "mediums" in dealing with marriage issues.

Maricel  was frank to discuss wive's complaints  about their husbands.

“Lack of time to listen, their stubbornness, it’s their [refusal] to deal with issues, it’s not making themselves available to seek help because they don’t want to look like they’re not in control of the relationship,” she enumerated.

That’s why besides, good communication with one's partner, one can also try “[having] someone to act as third party.”

Her husband Anthony Pangilinan agreed.

“Importante sa lalaki respeto, sa babae pagmamahal, so love and respect,” he said. “Sinasabi lagi ni Maricel tumiming (timing) ka, o kung hindi sa ‘yo manggagaling talk to a family member or a friend.

“Maricel has a number of numbers on her phone that she can call anytime, men who are close to me. Kung hindi niya kaya ng direkta doon niya idadaan sa kaibigan ko.”

But Maricel reminded the women who would like to try this to put in mind that, “it is important that there’s an agreement before an issue arises because if you just tell anybody, it will affect the other person and you don’t want to do that.”
