Maja steps up career

MANILA, Philippines - Maja Salvador has stepped up her career by exploring the recording scene. For the past few months, the 25-year-old actress-dancer has been busy with singing stints and promoting her debut album Believe, under Ivory Music. Believe has been doing well in the nationwide music charts.

To be a recording artist is a “dream come true” for Maja. In a brief interview, she talks about the new, exciting things in her life.

How does it feel to finally launch your very own album?

“Of course, it’s a dream come true to have my own album and share it with fans and supporters. It has been their dream as well that I record an album because they know that I sing. Finally, Ivory fulfilled that dream.”

How would you describe your music?

“It’s a cross between Beyoncé and J.Lo.”

What do you say about comments comparing you to Sarah Geronimo and Anne Curtis?

 â€œSarah (Geronimo) is truly the total performer. It’s also a dream of mine to become a total performer, pero ang dami ko pang kakaining bigas and dami ko pang dapat pag-aralan para makarating kung nasan man si Sarah ngayon. (And) then when you see Anne (Curtis) perform, she really enjoys it. She’s happy and energetic. Siguro nasa gitna nila (ako).”

What’s you reaction to people who doubt your singing talent?

“Maybe for other people, they find it hard to believe that I was able to cut an album. Sobrang excited. Parang panibago sa paningin. It’s something new. After all, they know me as someone who acts, who dances, and then, now someone who sings? And so this album proves that yes, opo, I also have a talent in singing.”

As a brand ambassador for Coby, how do you feel about the new collaboration between Coby and Ivory Records? (Coby has installed her music video, Dahan-Dahan, in Coby MID 7015 3G tablets.

“Very happy, actually. Ever since, they have been very supportive. This time, ito naman sa album ko naka-embed dito ‘yung kanta kong Dahan-Dahan, tapos meron ka pang free microphone that is limited edition worth P999. Cute, isn’t it? So kahit paulit-ulit hanggang bago ka matulog (at) pag gising mo, puwede mo i-sing along ang Dahan-Dahan basta meron kang Coby tablet. So I’m very happy with their support, especially since I’m just new to the (music) industry.”
