Meg Imperial: From a passerby role to lead star

MANILA, Philippines- After almost eleven years in showbiz, Meg Imperial finally gets a big break in the industry: a lead role in a teleserye.

After moving to ABS-CBN last year, the network slowly honed Meg and gave her a kontrabida role in "Galema."

Now she's already leading in the network's upcoming teleserye "Moon of Desire."

“I started as talent po, e,” the 21-year-old actress recalled in an interview on Wednesday afternoon. “So hindi ako basta na lang nagiging bida. Nag-umpisa po ako from scratch muna na passerby, nasa likod ng malalaking artista, doon po ako nag-umpisa."

“Talagang pinagdaanan ko po ‘yong hirap. So ito ‘yong desire ko na maging lead, magkaroon ng break sa showbiz po. So ito na po, natupad na po.”

Sexier

One of the considered launching projects of Meg was the sexy film “Menor de Edad.” She even became a FHM magazine cover girl before working on the film to prep her for the role and build her “sexy” confidence.

But after seeing the teaser of her upcoming afternoon show, observers said the young actress has taken her sexy image a notch higher.

“Siguro po kasi dahil first ko po ‘yong Menor de Edad, hindi pa po ako gano’n ka-prepared na gawin ‘yong mga ganoong bagay,” she explained when asked how she was convinced to do the sexy scenes in the TV series.

Meanwhile, she is confident that she won't become "bastusin" in the new television series because the sexy scenes are more refined as there is an existing censorship in TV shows.

She added that she's confident that the director was able to do the scenes "artistically."

“Hindi ko rin naman po magagawa ang proyekto na ‘to na hindi ako nagtitiwala sa prod naming na aalagaan nila ako nang maayos. At hindi naman din po nila hahayaan na maging bastusin ako sa harap ng maraming tao,” she said.

Since her kontrabida in the show is another budding sexy star Ellen Adarna, many believe that the TV series would become a venue for a showdown of sexiness between the two actresses.

Meg clarified that her level of sexiness is different from Ellen's.

"Iba po kasi pagiging desirable ko, iba ‘yong sexiness ko and iba rin po si Ellen. Ako po kasi parang ando’n ako sa innocent but sexy.”

“Moon of Desire” also stars JC de Vera, Dominique Roque, and Miko Raval. It starts airing on March 31 at the Kapamilya Gold block.
