Dreams Get Real talent search to hold weekly elims at SM malls

MANILA, Philippines - Dreams Get Real, the talent search for the next OPM star organized by McJIM Classic Leather, will hold a series of weekly eliminations this month in various SM Supermalls in Metro Manila, Southern Luzon and Central Luzon.

College students may showcase their exceptional singing talents and star quality in the weekly elimination rounds at the following venues and dates: SM City Masinag Mall Atrium, today; SM City Clark on March 16; SM City Calamba Event Center, March 23; and SM Manila, March 30.

The grand champion of the Dreams Get Real talent search will receive cash prize worth P50,000 from McJim Classic Leather, a recording and management contract, and a grant to record a single and release a music video. 

“Starting a musical career in the Philippines is very difficult. It requires more than just talent. Dreams Get Real provides a lot of the help that a new artist would need to break into the musical scene,” said Dreams Get Real Project Head Chris Cahilig.

Dreams Get Real accepts all male solo, duo, band, or group musical acts composed of students 15 to 25 years old from any college or university. Only contestants who are not under any recording or management contract as a musical act will be accepted. A maximum of five members are allowed for a group or a band; it must have an all-male or majority male membership. The groups or bands must have at least one member who is currently enrolled in a college or university, and they must be of Filipino lineage.

An initial pool of 50 contestants will be chosen to compete in five Dreams Get Real weekly eliminations. After these elimination rounds, a panel of judges will select 12 semi-finalists. The semi-finalists will be asked to perform an original song or a cover song and their performances will be video recorded and posted on the TV Get Real YouTube channel of McJIM Classic Leather.

Out of the 12, six finalists will be chosen. Each of the Top 6 finalists will professionally record an original song under Sonic State Studio, the arranger and recording studio behind OPM artists Gloc 9, Abra, Orange and Lemons, Kamikazee, Silent Sanctuary, and 1:43, among others. Their recordings will be released as singles in radio stations nationwide. The Top 6 will have a final competition on June 15, 2014.

All semi-finalists will receive P10,000 worth of McJIM Classic Leather products. The grand winner will receive P50,000 in cash, a recording and management contract, and a grant to have the official music video of a single. The second placer will win P25,000 in cash and a trophy, while the third place winner will receive P15,000 in cash and a trophy.
