Stirring sets mark day 2 of Malasimbo Festival 2014

PUERTO GALERA, Philippines — The crowd was on its feet on the second night of Malasimbo Music and Arts Festival.

Some even flew from around the world to Manila and then to Puerto Galera to experience the yearly gathering of lovers of all musical forms.

DJ Mark Zero opened the festivity with electronic mixes to warm up the crowd.

Crowns Down, a 10-member instrumental act from Mindanao, roused many from their grassy seats with a 50-minute set of all-original world music compositions.

The festival, in celebration of "life and music" atop Mount Malasimbo, also brought to town the Los Angeles-born Low Leaf of Filipino descent.

Low Leaf's soulful vocals and arrangement reminded listeners of the wonders of creation and the joys of nature. She also rendered two pieces dedicated to and composed for the Philippines.

The sound of avant-garde DJ Mark de Clive-Lowe, who hails from Los Angeles, London and New Zealand, brought in a rare musical experience as a one-man band.

Australian DJ Gavin Boyd concluded the event, which ended on the early morning of Saturday, on a high note with an energizing music to end the month and usher in the dawn and a new day in the festival.
