Sam: I’d rather be underrated than overrated
MANILA, Philippines - Sam Concepcion wants to take it slow as far as his concert career is concerned. He said this during a recent interview for his upcoming concert No Limitations, which will be held on March 15, 8 p.m. at the Music Museum.
“I want to work my way up, one venue at a time,†said Sam. “For now, I am comfortable staging a concert in a more intimate venue like Music Museum. Then, who knows? Maybe, when I am ready I can go on performing in a bigger venue.â€
No Limitations, Sam’s first major concert in five years, tapped promising director Paolo Valenciano to be at the concert’s helm. Sam and Paolo worked together in the musical The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
“I really think Sam is one underrated artist,†said Paolo, who works with Sam in ASAP. “This concert will showcase Sam’s artistry. He is very talented.â€
Asked to comment, Sam replied, “If you work hard and you really love what you do, where your heart and passion is, that will give someone longevity. I’d rather be underrated than overrated. I’d rather be known to be a good (but less popular) artist than known to be not good (enough).â€
No Limitations, produced by Hills and Dreams and line-produced by STAGES, also gathers the most promising names in the concert scene. Joining Paolo are choreographer Kevin Intal and the La Salle Dance Company-Street and musical director Marvin Querido.
No Limitations is the title of the carrier single of his latest album Infinite, produced by Universal Records.
The concert promises to be an all-out fan-pleaser with Sam performing some of his biggest hits like Mahal Na Mahal, No Limitations and Dati with guest Tippy Dos Santos. He will also perform a number from the movie DoBidooBidoo.
Sam will also dish out his own rendition of popular and current hits.
“It will be a show that my fans will totally enjoy,†added Sam. “We will celebrate years of friendship, love, good music and dances.â€
Tickets are available at Music Museum (721-6726), Ticketworld (891-9999) and select National Bookstore branches and major Robinsons Department stores.
