Vhong pokes fun at mauling incident in birthday message to Anne

MANILA, Philippines – It’s only been a month since the incident, but Vhong Navarro is already making fun of the scandal he was recently involved.

It can be remembered that the comedian was involved in a mauling incident at a condominium unit in Taguig City last January 22. Vhong named Cedric Lee and Deniece Cornejo as among the people behind the attack. Cornejo, in turn, accused the ABS-CBN actor of attempting to rape her.

Vhong greeted Anne Curtis, who celebrated her birthday on February 14, via phone patch in the Monday, February 17 episode of ABS-CBN’s noontime show “It’s Showtime.”

“Anne, pasensya ka na kung hindi ako nakapunta ng birthday mo, sa party mo. Kung wala man ako dun sa party mo, sa puso ko andito ka naman lagi,” he said.

Vhong continued: “Huwag ka mag-alala, Anne. Kung hindi man ako nakapunta d’yan para batiin ka live, mamaya paguwi mo sa condo mo andun ako.”

In turn, Vice quipped:  “Vhong, hindi talaga yung party yung na-miss mo. Ang na-miss mo talaga, ang dami talagang foods nung birthday.”

“Foods” is in reference to the reported text message Cornejo sent to Vhong, asking him to bring food items to her condo unit.

“Kung gusto n’yo naman ako dalawin, nasa safe house naman ako. Nakatira ako sa condo ni (“It’s Showtime” co-host) Ryan Bang,” Vhong joked further.

“Okay lang, punta kayo. May CCTV naman sa condo ko,” Ryan quipped.

“Pero kakaiba yung condo ni Ryan. Walang elevator, fire exit lang,” Vice said.

Vhong has been absent from “It’s Showtime” since the incident. In a previous interview, the comedian admitted he’s scared of returning to the noontime variety show because of how people would react.

Vice has also been making fun of the incident, often referencing Vhong, Lee and Cornejo in a number of his jokes.

Early this month, Vice asked a contestant during their “That’s My Tomboy” segment: “Sa palagay mo, kung iimbitahan ka, pupunta ka ba sa condo ni Deniece?” He continued, “Laurel! Laurel!”

Recently, Vice made a remark that many believed was a reference to the CCTV footage that shows Lee kissing Cornejo inside the condominium elevator.

“Vhong, pag okay ka na, kita tayo. Mag-kiss tayo sa elevator,” he said.

In an interview with a television news website, Vice said the jokes are meant to make Vhong laugh.
