MANILA, Philippines - Viva Communications, Inc. launched MTV Pinoy, the Philippine edition of the trendsetting music channel last Jan. 30.
It marked the partnership of Viva and Viacom International Media Networks, a unit of Viacom, Inc. Viva is one of the largest entertainment companies in the Philippines with interests in movie, TV and music production, artist management, concerts and pay television.
Viacom and Viva agreed to collaborate on local production, on-ground events, marketing and advertising sales of MTV Philippines. Viva is also in-charge of Comedy Central Asia’s provincial distribution in the Philippines.
Chosen after a long painstaking process and named the MTV VJs of this generation are:
VJ Sam – Film and TV actress, model and product endorser named Philippines Sexiest by FHM Magazine. VJ Sam Pinto is the host of Pwesto, the site for the best live performances and other others.
VJ Yassi – Film and TV actress and advertising model. VJ Yassi Pressman is the host of Senti, which will feature the mushiest, cheesiest, most romantic Pinoy love songs on MTV Pinoy and Shoutout where viewers can send in their requests and dedications.
VJ Andre – Rising basketball star and aspiring filmmaker. VJ Andre Paras is the son of the legendary cager Benjie Paras. He plays for the University of the Philippines’ Fighting Maroons and is the host of Pinoy Beats, the show for the rapping, hip-hop and R&B loving Pinoys.
VJ Josh – Singer-actor Josh is the son of Gino Padilla. VJ Josh sings, too, and is working on his first album. He is the host of Rock On Pinas!, the weekly romp through the local rock scene, and Throwback, made for reliving memories with classic Pinoy videos.
MTV Pinoy’s VJs will also be hosting Halo Halo which focuses on local and foreign music videos and music news; The OPM Show with the latest about Filipino artists, Top 20 Filipino and International Countdowns of current hits; plus interesting bits like Ikot which goes around the Philippines for all things Filipino, Feedback on current issues and others.
MTV Pinoy will present original productions, events and programs geared towards Filipino viewers.
