MANILA, Philippines - GMA Regional TV and the Bantayan Island Association of Hotels, Resorts, Bars and Restaurants, Inc. forged a partnership launching the Kapuso Adopt-A-Bangka Project in a memorandum of agreement signing held last Jan. 18 at the Henry Hotel in Cebu City.
With the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda that left parts of the Visayas in total devastation, the Bantayan Island Association of Hotels, Resorts, Bars, and Restaurants, Inc. formed the Back-To-Sea Project, which aims to reconnect the fishermen of Bantayan Island back to the sea. The partnership formalizes the role of GMA Regional TV, specifically GMA TV Central and Eastern Visayas, as the media and strategic partner of the Bantayan Back-To-Sea Project through the Kapuso Adopt-A-Bangka campaign.
The Kapuso Adopt-A-Bangka Project is a media campaign that intends to help provide long-term livelihood opportunities to those affected by Yolanda in Northern Cebu by rehabilitating and rebuilding their bangka through the help of various sponsors. For its first wave alone, the campaign plans to give out 100 bangka, which will consequently aid 100 affected families.
During the said signing, GMA Regional TV turned over a check amounting to P700,000 worth of proceeds from several donors to the Bantayan Back-To-Sea Project. The campaign’s official blog site www.kapusoadoptabangkaproject.blogspot.com was also launched that night. To date, a total of P1M combined donations and pledges for the Kapuso Adopt-A-Bangka Project has been collected.
