Jazz musicians unite for ‘Yolanda’ victims

MANILA, Philippines – Big names in the jazz music industry come together to help out Filipinos in one special event.

It has been late last year when Typhoon Haiyan, locally known as Typhoon Yolanda, hit the Visayas region leaving a lot of Filipinos helpless.

Different organizations say the rehabilitation of the region may take a number of years, which needs a lot of support from the government.

But these musicians would like to give back to their fans, as they hold the “Heal Our Land” concert on Friday, January 31, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The jazz musicians who will perform in the concert are David Benoit, David Pack, Kevyn Lettau, Brian Simpson, Jessy J, Richie Garcia, Ray Parker Jr., Jonathan Butler, Michale Paulo, Spencer Day, Freddie Schreuders, Eric Valentine and Nate Philips.

According to Ed Bitanga, President of All That Jazz Inc., the jazz musicians will “not only [be] giving their time to us, they’re also sharing their talent in this event. A lot of countries and a lot of people had helped us to surpass this endeavor.”

“The music industry, particularly the jazz genre where these people belong from, is here to help us. We are truly grateful, not only because they are here, but because they’ll gonna give their fans to sing along,” he added.

Joining these set of top-caliber musicians are local talents Billy Crawford, Sitti, Side A, South Border, Freestyle, Mulatto, Bituin Escalante, Zoo, True Faith, Chad Borja and Thor Dulay.

The proceeds of the concert will go directly to ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya and Gawad Kalinga projects for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
