Unfriend director off to Berlin Int’l Filmfest

MANILA, Philippines - Joselito “Jay” Altarejos is a film and TV director, producer and screenwriter. He is well-known for his gay-themed films like Ang Lalake sa Parola, Ang Lihim ni Antonio, Kambyo, Ang Laro ng Buhay ni Juan, Pink Halo-Halo and Unfriend.

Unfriend will have its world premiere at the prestigious 64th Berlin International Film Festival Panorama section on Feb. 8. Its international rights have been bought by Fortissimo Films. Direk Jay, producer Mark Xander Fabillar, director of photography Arvin Viola and Unfriend lead actor Sandino Martin are scheduled to leave Manila on Feb. 4. Unfriend also stars Boots Anson-Roa and Angelo Ilagan.

Direk Jay has also directed a number of series, notably the youth-oriented Posh and the long-running 98-episode soap Legacy on GMA. On TV, he is credited as Jay Altarejos and he uses Joselito Altarejos in his films.

TV5’s Obsession is the latest TV work of direk Jay. It stars Marvin Agustin, Martin Escudero, Neri Naig and Bianca King. Obsession is a mini-series that airs Thursday nights at 8.
