IN PHOTOS: Megan Young and Coco Martin dazzle at People Asia’s People of the Year Awards

MANILA, Philippines – Megan Young and Coco Martin were definitely the stars of the night during People Asia’s People of the Year awards night, held at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City on Tuesday, January 21.

Megan and Coco, recipients of the said honor given yearly by the said lifestyle magazine, are joined by equally stellar company in the annual list.

The reigning Miss World said the recognition is a testament to her current goal—to become an inspiration to young girls who want to achieve beauty with a purpose, the credo of the international beauty pageant.

“I am very honored to be a part of the list of awardees for People Asia,” Megan said. “There are 14 of us. Some I know personally, the others I look up to as my idols. It’s exciting to meet the people that I idolize. And at the same time, there are people—young girls—who look up to me, so those are the people who inspire me to be here today and I hope to continue doing that.”

Meanwhile, the award is a good start of the year for Coco, who is currently doing a movie with Nora Aunor, also a People of the Year award recipient.

Other award recipients, which are featured in the December issue of People Asia, include pop diva Kuh Ledesma (who starred in and sang the theme song of the 2013 TV hit “My Husband’s Lover), acclaimed film director Brillante Mendoza, and ABS-CBN channel head Cory Vidanes.

Completing the list: fashion designer Criselda Lontok, Rizal Banking Commercial Corp. chair Helen Yuchengco Dee, Shell Philippines country chair Edgar Chua, Fairmont and Raffles hotels’ Tom Meyer, Dr. Steve Mark Gan of dental center Gan Advanced Osseo integration Center, Smart Gilas coach Chot Reyes, and healing priest Fr. Gerard Deverza.

President Benigno Aquino III presented the People Asia Lifetime Achievement award to National Bookstore’s Socorro Ramos.

Vice President Jejomar Binay was also present during the awarding.

Guests were treated to a musical number by Ledesma and a fashion show featuring the creations of Lontok. The event was hosted by Marc Nelson and Bianca Valerio.

“Since 2004, the magazine has been giving out “People of the Year” awards to people who have stood out in the past year for their achievements, advocacies and attitude. The awards have since become much-awaited year after year,” wrote People Asia editor in chief Joanne Rae Ramirez.
