Cory Quirino ‘very confident’ Phl will do well in Ms. World 2014
MANILA, Philippines – The year has just started but Cory Quirino, the national director of Miss World Philippines, is already preparing for 2014’s pageant.
In an interview during People Asia’s People of the Year Awards held at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City on Tuesday, January 21, Quirino said they are widening their search for this year’s Miss World Philippines, the pageant that determines the representative for the international Miss World pageant.

She added they now have “search partners†in America and in Europe to diversify the possible contestants for this year’s search
“The search has already begun. And who knows? We might a back to back with Miss World?†Quirino said.
She added, “So we’re looking for our daughters out there, the daughters of beautiful Filipinas and inviting them over to participate in the Miss World Philippines.â€
Is she confident the Philippines will do well in the 2014 pageant after the victory of current Miss World titleholder Megan Young?
“I’m confident. I’m very confident. The Filipina is very beautiful,†Quirino said.
Aside from another Miss World winner from the Philippines, Quirino hopes to bring the international beauty pageant to the Philippines soon.
“It’s a great possibility,†she said when asked if it’s it possible to hold the Miss World pageant in the Philippines. “It’s in my wish list and I will do everything I can to make that happen.â€
Megan Young is currently in the country to receive her People of the Year award from lifestyle magazine People Asia, which is celebrating its 14th year.
Other honorees this year include director Brillante Mendoza, actor Coco Martin, singer Kuh Ledesma, ABS-CBN executive Cory Vidanes, and actress Nora Aunor.

President Benigno Aquino III presented the award for People Asia’s Lifetime Achievement recipient Socorro Ramos, the founder of National Bookstore.
“I am very honored to be a part of the list of awardees for People Asia,†Megan said. “There are 14 of us. Some I know personally, the others I look up to as my idols. It’s exciting to meet the people that I idolize. And at the same time, there are people—young girls—who look up to me, so those are the people who inspire me to be here today and I hope to continue doing that.â€
