Viber shares the Pinoy heart through a charity concert

MANILA, Philippines - Who says parties are all about fun?

Viber, the global messaging application, showed the world how it’s possible to have a ball yet take the initiative in raising the much-needed funds for the rehabilitation of the poor victims of Typhoon Yolanda as well.

Last week, Viber brought some of the world’s top DJs to Manila for a special one-night dance party at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds. Dubbed United Republiq: An Electronic Music Assembly for a Cause, the concert’s top draws included Swedish DJ Axwell, Dutch DJ and house music producer Nicky Romero and Swedish DJ duo No ID.

Deeply moved by the touching news footages of the widespread devastation in Central Philippines, the foreign artists willingly joined the ranks of celebrities who pledged their own humble share for the hapless victims.

Without batting an eyelash, they immediately decided to waive their talent fees and donate the proceeds from their show to World Vision, which has also been actively campaigning for the welfare of destitute women and children in the country.

Driven by their common vision, Viber, with the help of the other event organizers, showed the world one of the best ways to harness the power of Filipino unity in the face of adversity. “The Filipino spirit is strongest when we are one,” they stressed.

The United Republiq dance party is an offshoot of Viber’s Viber Helps campaign, which immediately kicked off a few days after the historic storm. Aiming to bridge the communications gap in the devastated areas, the company launched its free calls campaign in partnership with Globe Telecom, which enabled affected families to get in touch with their loved ones here and abroad.

Aside from that, Viber also collaborated with the Philippine National Red Cross and Ayala Malls in establishing its Sagip Tawag Centers, mall-based relief communications centers offering free laptop and mobile phone usage.

The United Republiq event also showcased the formidable talents of local DJ heavyweights led by Ace Ramos, Mars Miranda, Martin Pulgar and Marc Naval.

Beyond the bright lights and the pulsating grooves, United Republiq stands out as one of the entertainment industry’s biggest fundraisers for the typhoon victims, with its estimated earnings of seven million pesos aimed at saving lives and rekindling hope.

Despite its global positioning, Viber declares how deeply it shares the Filipino heart.
