Dolphy honored on stamp
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) came out with a limited edition stamp featuring the Comedy King Dolphy in line with the celebration of the National Stamp Collection Month this November.
PHL Postmaster General Josie dela Cruz said that the stamp is their way of paying tribute to the late actor, whose real name was Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr.
“This is our way of saluting and honoring one of the most successful yet humble actors the country has ever produced. Dolphy really made us proud to be Filipino with the quality of entertainment he offered. No wonder his career lasted for decades,†said Dela Cruz.
The stamp bears the signature smile of Dolphy, who had made the country laugh through his timeless movies and comedy shows on television.
Dela Cruz added, “Dolphy’s works are already imprinted in our culture.â€
The PHLPost launched the Dolphy Stamp during a medical mission held at the Signal Village National High School in Taguig City.
The medical mission was organized by Dolphy’s family as represented by his son Eric Quizon and the Pidol Foundation.
PHLPost formally presented the limited edition stamp and souvenir to Dolphy’s family.
The PHLPost has produced 5,000 pieces of the Dolphy Stamp, now available to the public at P100 per stamp.
Dolphy was born on July 25, 1928 and he died on July 10, 2012 at the age of 83. He was dubbed as the King of Comedy and was also referred to as Mang Pidol. He made his first movie when he was 19, along with Fernando Poe Sr., in Dugo at Bayan. Among his other notable works on the big and small screens were Marcova: Comfort Gay, John en Marsha and Home Along Da Riles.
Aside from the Dolphy Stamp, PHLPost also released the Tricycle Stamp and the Bonifacio150 Stamp this month.
