MANILA, Philippines- Who said Halloween costumes are just for humans?

Our pets were also given the chance to celebrate Halloween with a cause, as the proceeds of this Halloween costume contest go to PAWS’ animal shelter.

On their tenth year, PAWS executive director Anna Cabrera said that there were more participants this year, with almost a hundred pet contestants. She said they’re thankful for “the support that the pet lovers give to the organization.”

Four celebrities were invited to judge this year’s Scardy Cats and Dogs event: Ryza Cenon, Gelli de Belen, Markki Stroem and Tim yap.

Ryza and Markki even brought along their pets: Ryza’ pet was named Mallows, while Markki’s pet was named Drake.

This year, they’ve chosen fifteen participants for the “Pumpkin Patch Award,” since a lot of pets wore fantastic costumes, while there are also eight major awards.

The first major award is the Crypt-Keeper choice or the Most Original Pet Costume, which was awarded to Unsoy Obillios’ pet that sported The Wrecking Ball costume.

The next award is the Casper’s Choice award which was taken home by Pogo the Chef.

Of course, what is a Halloween costume contest without the scariest pet and master award or the Scream of the Crowd award? “Unanimously, the winner of this award is Charlie dela Cruz and his pet that sported The Black Fairy costume.

Another award was given to the pet with the scariest award, which was given to Slippers who wore the costume of a tarantula.

Slippers is an ASPIN or Asong Pinoy who was adopted from the PAWS animal shelter.

Of course, they’ve given recognition as well to the ASPINs and PUSPINs who joined the event. ASPIN meaning Asong Pinoy and PUSPIN meaning Pusang Pinoy.

For the Halim-awaw award or the best native dog in costume, Liz navarro’s three-legged pet Pebbles took home the award.

While for the Halim-meow award or the best native cat in costume goes to Douche, that wore the costume of a nutcracker.

Aside from the pets, their masters were also asked to wear a costume that is matched with their pet’s costume.

There have been a lot of contestants for this category, but what stood out is the Wizard of Oz team, with Fat Choi and Fat Chai imitating the Lion and Dorothy, while their masters dressed up as Tin man and Scarecrow.

But what stood out from the rest and was given the Transylvanian Award is Pepper, who is owned by Charize Osilios.

Pepper acted like a Wall Mounted Deer, with a message saying “No to Animal Cruelty.”

Aside from the fun Halloween costume contest, all pets were able to enjoy the different booths that catered from their food to grooming needs.
