Phil thanks supporters amid breakup with Angel

MANILA, Philippines - Phil Younghusband thanked the fans who supported his relationship with Angel Locsin, right after the Kapamilya actress admitted her breakup with the football player.

“I just thank everyone for their support. Everyone’s been amazing,” the football player said in a taped interview with ABS-CBN’s news program “TV Patrol” aired Saturday, October 26.

But asked for a statement regarding the split, the 26-year-old Philippine national football team player said, “I can’t comment on that right now. I just can’t… I can’t comment on that right now.”

On Friday, October 25, Angel took to Twitter to admit that she and Phil have split. This is after reports surfaced earlier this week that Phil and Angel have ended their relationship.

“Sa lahat po ng nagtatanong kung totoo bang hiwalay na kami ni Phil, Totoo po. Sana po maintindihan nyo kung hindi na po namin sasabihin ang dahilan..pero maayos po kaming naghiwalay at mutual decision po ito,” she said.

“Pasensya na po kung hindi po kami makasagot agad tungkol sa status ng aming relasyon. Lalong-lalo na po sa mga sumuporta sa aming dalawa. Hindi po namin kayo binalewala... mahirap lang po talaga kung nasa ganitong sitwasyon. Nagulat na lang kami na naunahan na kami ng balita bago pa man kami makapagusap uli.”

A tabloid report published prior to Angel’s confirmation said the two ended their relationship three weeks ago.

Fellow football player James Younghusband said he supports his brother Phil amid the split.

“We’ve been to the movies and stuff like that, and also to the movies as well,” James told “TV Patrol.”

He added, “Time’s a healer, time’s a healer.”

Phil is preparing for the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup, while Angel is part of the upcoming ABS-CBN show “The Legal Wife” with Jericho Rosales and Maja Salvador.
