Legal HD on the barangay polls
MANILA, Philippines - The barangay, also known as the barrio, forms part of the cities and municipalities of each region in our country. Each barangay is headed by a barangay captain and several council members or kagawads. Considered as the smallest unit of governance in the Philippine Government, it is where most plans for development and progress are conceptualized.
On Oct. 28, a new set of barangay officials will be elected, following the guidelines under the Philippine Constitution that barangay elections will be held every three years.
For this week’s episode of Solar News Channel’s Legal Help Desk (Legal HD), join lawyers Karen Jimeno and Rod Nepomuceno (photo) as they discuss the basics when it comes to barangays. What are the responsibilities and duties of the barangay officials you elect? What problems can you report to them?
Legal HD airs Monday nights at 10.
