Iya on boyfriend Drew: We’re at our best when we’re together

MANILA, Philippines - How do actress-host Iya Villania and TV host Drew Arellano keep the fire burning after almost a decade of being together?

Iya said a big part of keeping their relationship strong is exerting an effort to make time for each other despite their busy schedules.

“We really just enjoy being together,” Iya said during the press conference for 9 Works Theatrical’s staging of “Grease” on Monday, Oct. 14. “It’s really making time for each other and making each other a priority.”

She added, “When we’re together, it’s when we’re really at our best.”

Iya and Drew have been in a relationship since 2004. Rumors claim they’re already engaged, although the two remain mum on the matter.

The Kapamilya artist said Drew never meddles with her professional life although they are in the same industry.

“He just lets me do what I want to do. That’s how he shows his support — he has never been controlling,” she said.

Iya is part of the upcoming production of “Grease” as Betty Rizzo this November. This will be her third time to do a stage musical, after “Footloose” in 2005 and “The Wedding Singer” in 2010.

“I’ve always enjoyed doing theater. It’s always a joy,” Iya said.

A staple in ABS-CBN soap operas, Iya can’t compare television and theater. However, the 27-year-old artist is grateful theater gives her the opportunity to showcase her other talents — singing and dancing.

Iya explained, “Hindi talaga malaki ang bayad sa theater. So kung walang masyadong pera, maraming puso. So it’s nice to be with people who have the same heart and have the same passion.”

“Grease” will run from Nov. 9 to Dec. 1 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza in Makati City.
