UA&P releases new books
MANILA, Philippines - The University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) releases two books that address two important issues in today’s world — character education and migration.
Bringing Out the Good in Character by Veronica Esposo Ramirez, Ph.D, is about bringing up adolescents of good character in the digital ages, education in chastity, anti-bullying, the use of stories in forming good character and the tools for evaluating character education. Ramirez is an associate professor at the UA&P and the director for operations of the Center for Research and Communication.
Working Overseas: Diaspora that Sustains the Nation edited by Ramirez is a book set on migration and overseas work. According to Villegas, “Filipino migrant workers are ubiquitous on this planet. Remittances from them are widely acknowledged as a major pillar of the Philippine economy. On the other hand, the high social costs of the absentee parents and risks to life and limb occasioned by men working abroad are being subjected to greater scrutiny by a host of social scientists and philosophers.â€
Book One is a compilation of articles on OFW written by Prof. Bernardo Villegas. Book Two has research papers on overseas domestic and service workers. Book Three has papers pertaining to spending patterns of OFW families, the remittance industry and OFW as an economic engine. Books Four to Six are proceedings of the conference, seminar and round table discussions conducted by the UA&P on OFW and Migration.
The books are available in major bookstores.
