Captain Phillips sneak previews Oct. 14 & 15

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Columbia Pictures has announced that its critically-acclaimed hostage thriller Captain Phillips will have special sneak previews on Oct. 14 and 15 in selected theaters nationwide.

Starring two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks in the title role, the film is Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass’ multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the US container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates.

Captain Phillips is — through Greengrass’ distinctive lens — simultaneously a pulse-pounding thriller and a complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips and his Somali counterpart, Muse (Barkhad Abdi). Set on an incontrovertible collision course off the coast of Somalia, both men will find themselves paying the human toll for economic forces outside of their control.

From a screenplay by Billy Ray, Captain Phillips is based upon the book, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs and Dangerous Days at Sea, by Phillips with Stephan Talty.
