PLDT celebrates Teachers’ Month

MANILA, Philippines - National Teachers’ Month is celebrated every year from Sept. 5 to Oct. 5. But it is an all-year-round event at the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company through its PLDT InfoTeach Outreach Program. It’s PLDT’s way to pay tribute to Filipino teachers who have made this profession a calling to change lives the way the telecommunication company has been doing these past years.

Started in 2004, the PLDT InfoTeach Outreach Program is a computer-training program designed for teachers and students providing them basic digital literacy. It introduces them to the basic uses of computer, the Internet and the basic software including word processing, excel and powerpoint.

“PLDT hopes to contribute in building the capability of the teachers so they can better implement the K-12 curriculum which calls for the integration of the modern ICTs to teaching and learning,” says Evelyn Mamauag-del Rosario, division head-senior manager of Community Relations Division, Public Affairs.

Part of the InfoTeach program is the myDSL Broadband Quiz Contest wherein best performers will compete with each other. Winners will receive scholarships.

PLDT has partnered with University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), Intel Philippines, Philippine Community eCenter Network, office of DepEd Schools Division Superintendent and the local government units. Intel has created modules Getting Started and Skills for Success for teachers and students, respectively. UPOU is in charge of the blended mode of training (face-to-face and online discussions).

PLDT brings its InfoTeach Outreach Program to places such as Isabela, Iloilo City, Zamboanga City, Bacolod City, Davao City, Cebu City, Marikina City, Legazpi City, General Santos City and Malabon City.

Thus, PLDT is always a partner in changing lives and transforming communities through education.
