Local stars celebrate Megan Young’s Miss World 2013 win

MANILA, Philippines - Megan Young made waves online when she won the Miss World 2013 crown in Bali, Indonesia on Saturday night.

The 23-year-old actress and TV host is the first Filipina to win the Miss World title.

Keywords and hashtags related to the Miss World pageant and Megan became trending topics on the social networking site Twitter.

#MeganMW2013 and #MW2013 were trending topics in the Philippines minutes after Megan won the crown, while “Congrats Megan Young” trended worldwide.

In Indonesia, where the Miss World 2013 pageant was held, #FinalShowMW2013 was the top trending topic. Vania Larissa (Indonesia’s representative in the pageanrt), and Miss France also trended.

Celebrities in the Philippines were quick to tweet their congratulatory messages to Megan, among them Miss World 1993 runner-up Ruffa Gutierrez. “Blessing in disguise that she wasn't accepted at Binibining Pilipinas. @meganbata was vindicated. Our very first Miss World!! Well deserved!” she tweeted.

Actress Maxene Magalona said that thanks to Megan’s Miss World victory, the Philippines is the only country in the world to have won all major beauty pageant titles.

Megan’s sister, GMA-7 actress Lauren Young, also took to Twitter after the Philippines took the crown.

“Atin na ang Supranational at World. Next, International-Tourism-Universe. Go! #MagandaAngPinay,” comedian John Lapus tweeted.

Megan’s victory follows Filipina Mutya Johanna Datul’s win at this year’s Miss Supranational earlier this month.
