MANILA, Philippines- Megan Young of the Philippines took the Miss World 2013 crown on Saturday night.

Young, the first Filipina to win the crown, bested 128 contestants from around the world.

She won over five other finalists including Marine Lorphelin of France, Carranzar NAA Okailey Shooter of Ghana, Sancler Frantz Konzen of Brazil, Elena Ibarbia Jimenez of Spain and Gibraltar's Maroua Kharbouch, who won the People’s Choice Award.

During the question and answer portion, each candidate was given 30 seconds to answer the question: “why do you deserve to be the Miss World 2013?”

Young's answer: “I treasure a core value of humanity and that guides people why they act the way they do. I will use this to show other people how they can understand each other… as one, we can help society.”

The Filipina's answer made the judges feel her sincerity, according to one of the pageant's hosts.

Following Megan’s throne is Miss France and Miss Ghana.

Megan was very emotional as she was being crowned and in tears when she delivered her speech after the coronation.

“I always tell everyone that I’ll just be myself in everything that I do. And to share what I know, and educate people also on what they can do to help for what I’m gonna do next year. I’m very excited!" she said.

“Salamat talaga sa aking mga kababayang Pilipino!”
