Elmo on project with Julie Anne: ‘Fans are just going to have to wait’

MANILA, Philippines - They were once showbiz’s most promising love team. But now, it looks like Elmo Magalona and Julie Anne San Jose have gone their separate ways.

The 19-year-old singer-actress is currently headlining the GMA-7 soap opera “Kahit Nasaan Ka Pa” with two new onscreen partners — teen stars Kristoffer Martin and Lucho Ayala.

On the other hand, Elmo is rarely seen on television these days. His last regular show, “Party Pilipinas,” was canceled early this year and he is no longer part of its replacement, “Sunday All Stars.”

But this doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the JuliElmo partnership, Elmo said. In fact, he is aware there is an existing clamor for his love team with Julie Anne to return on screen.

“I always hear it from a lot of people. I guess they’re just going to have to wait,” Elmo said on the possibility of working again with Julie Anne during the launch of Unilever Teen Week event recently.

The fans of the JuliElmo love team are among the most actively online; some of them would even bash other artists who work with or are linked to Elmo and Julie Anne.

Fans previously bashed Lauren Young and Alden Richards (who was romantically linked to Elmo and Julie Anne, respectively). In an interview with the press, Kristoffer, Julie Anne’s new onscreen partner, said he received painful comments from JuliElmo fans on Twitter.

To this, Elmo asked fans to support him and Julie Anne individually.

“We’re all in this professionally. They should all be happy for different things. Huwag silang mag-focus sa mga negative na nakikita nila,” he said.

At his own pace

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old rapper-actor said that while he’s not very visible on TV these days, he’s not lying low from showbiz.

He added that there are some planned projects for him although, right now, “nothing is confirmed yet, nothing is really final.”

Elmo is also a freshman at the College of Saint Benilde.

The Kapuso artist is aware he’s being compared to some of his contemporaries in showbiz. But Elmo said he’d rather not compare himself to his fellow young stars.

“I think it’s all in my own pace lang naman," Elmo said.

He added, “I mean, hindi naman ako naghahabol ng kahit na ano. But as long as something is offered to me, I’ll do my best and definitely I’m going to love what I’m doing.”

Elmo spoke to the press as part of Pond’s, Rexona, and Cream Silk’s week-long #TeenWeekPH celebration, which will happen from September 23 to 27. The Kapuso star will culminate the event this September 23, Monday, at the Tala High School in Caloocan City.
