ThreatMan X: Search for Phl’s strongest man

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - On the heels of recent calamities and heroic deeds by common folk, the Civil Defense Action Group (CDAG), in cooperation with SM Supermalls, has announced the launch for the very first hunt for the country’s strongest man by way of a nationwide mall tour dubbed ThreatMan X: Search for the Philippines’ Strongest Man.  “(It) highlights and promotes the necessity of boosting threat management skills, to ably face either man-made or natural threats, by being of sound mind and body. Aside from feats of brute strength, contestants will also face challenges to test mental abilities in disaster and rescue situations,” states CDAG national director Johnny Yu.

Challenges will include tests in scaling, rappelling, high-altitude rescue, search and recovery, submergence, truck-hauling, fire-control, rescue robot operation and first-aid skills.

The event series forms part of a larger competition, ThreatMan X: Global Challenge also dealing with life-saving emergency skills, slated for March 1 and 2, 2014 at the SMX Convention Hall, to determine the Philippines’ representative team to the main event’s Novice Division.  The international finals are the crown jewel of ThreatCon X 2014, a global public-private summit on threat management, disaster prevention, rescue operations and environmental awareness.

With the theme “Protecting Man, Saving the Planet,” the event will be held for the first time in the Philippines.

ThreatMan X:  Global Challenge will be produced into a 13-episode reality-TV challenge. “Talks are underway with leading local TV networks to serve as broadcast carrier for the team challenge and this is certainly a TV-event whose time has come,” says project director TJ Besa.

ThreatMan X  begins its first run, kicking off in early December at the SM Mall of Asia and will make its rounds through SM SouthMall and SM branches in Pampanga, Baguio, Cebu, and Davao (Lanang). Registration is now open to interested participants 18 years old and above.  Inquiries may be made through 994-2832 and 0906-2797343 or e-mailed to [email protected].
