Back to The ‘80s and ‘90s at The Filinvest Tent

MANILA, Philippines - If there’s one period in music that everyone likes going back to, it will be the ’80s and the ’90s. The ’80s saw the birth of the New Wave and the use of synthesizers while the ’90s was all about boy bands, girl bands and grunge. Both eras lent their particular marks in music which are still sources of influence, even for tunes today. Now, you can relive the glorious music days of the ’80s and ’90s as The Filinvest Tent in Alabang, Muntinlupa City holds Back to The ’80s and ’90s, a dance party slated tonight at 8.

Gracing the event are three of the country’s top DJs, Jon Tupaz of Magic 89.9’s 12 Inch Mix in Friday Madness block; Joey Alba, resident DJ of The Malt Room; and corporate events DJ Nino Belza.

Joey recounts being a music lover at a very young age which led to his career as disc jockey. Growing up, he divulges that he spent most of the money he saved from his allowance on records and even DJ gear. Meanwhile, Nino got hooked on becoming a DJ partly due to a neighbor he had when he was growing up.

Both DJs have a very personal place in their hearts when it comes to the music of the ’80s and ’90s.

“It is the music of my generation, simply put. Aside from the technical challenge of mixing it, it’s the kind of music that brings a lot of memories back. I always get a kick listening to it, and the fact that I’ve been given a chance to play it in front of a crowd and make people happy is icing on the cake,” states Joey.

“I really love ’80s and ’90s music because it was what I was listening to growing up. I found a lot of great tracks from these two decades, so I decided to focus on that,” Nino adds.

The DJs disclose that their listeners are mostly in their 30s and above, but they also have younger listeners.

“What’s common about them is that they all like to reminisce about memories they had growing up, and I think music plays a huge part in that,” explains Nino.

Tickets to the show are P516 for general admission, P1,030 for VIP and P8,100 for VIP lounge, available at Ticketworld (891-9999) or onsite.
