Jessy on Sam’s courtship: Too early to tell
MANILA, Philippines - Although they arrived at the red carpet separately, Jessy Mendiola and Sam Milby were seen leaving the Star Magic Ball together last Saturday, September 7.
This prompted their fans and the entertainment press to assume that Jessy and Sam’s relationship is getting deeper, just a few weeks after the actor admitted he is courting the Kapamilya actress.

But according to Jessy herself, it’s really too early to tell whether her friendship with Sam will progress further.
“Kailan ba siya umamin? Two weeks ago? Three weeks ago? It’s too early to tell if close kami or not kasi andun pa lang ako sa kinikilala ko yung tao,†the Kapamilya actress said during the press conference for Cosmopolitan Philippines’ Cosmo Men supplement on Tuesday, September 10.
Jessy added: “And ngayon talaga, I’m really more focused on what’s going on with me. I think he understands that, that I’m not ready yet.â€
The actress is the cover girl of Cosmopolitan Philippines’ September issue.
Consistent
Asked to describe the status of her relationship with Sam, Jessy said: “He’s a very good friend of mine.â€
“He’s a very good friend, walang etchos. Hindi ako yung tipong nagpapaligaw, ganyan,†she quipped.
They go out on dates, Jessy said, although always with friends.

The “Maria Mercedes†star adds she likes that Sam is very consistent and observant as a suitor. Jessy said the Kapamilya actor is sincere and already gets along well with her friends.
“He seems like a very [good] friend, a very good friend because he jives with my friends,†she explained. “And I think that’s a good thing. Kasi, kapag alam ng isang tao na hindi ka pa ready, he takes his time. Para sa akin talaga, mabuti na rin yung ganun.â€
Worth it
Meanwhile, Jessy reveals her upcoming soap opera “Maria Mercedes†is slated to premiere this October on ABS-CBN primetime slot.
It was revealed last July that the 20-year-old actress will headline the remake of the popular Mexican telenovela.

“Sinasabi nila the role is daring, but daring in a way na you’re going to see a different side of me. It’s not the usual sweet, girly type of role,†Jessy said.
Jessy admits there’s pressure since she’ll inevitably be compared to the other stars who played roles originally done by Mexican actress-singer Thalia—namely, Marian Rivera, Carla Abellana, and Erich Gonzales.
“Of course, hindi naman maiiwasan na icompare kami sa isa’t isa. But I really look up to them as really good actresses,†she said.
