The Strangers on Cinema One

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Three of today’s hottest young stars take on the supernatural today as Enrique Gil, Julia Montes and Enchong Dee star in the Star Cinema horror film The Strangers which is set to premiere on Cinema One.

The Strangers tells the story of Pat (Julia) and Max (Enrique), twin siblings who decide to go out of town to the far-flung oasis of Murcia for their 18th birthday. Joined by their parents, Roy (Johnny Revilla) and Evelyn (Cherry Pie Picache), their grandfather Pete (Jaime Fabregas), his temporary caregiver Paloma (Janice de Belen) and their newly-hired family driver Toning (Nico Antonio), the family’s happiness is cut short when their van hits an old lady on the road. Unsure of what happened, the family tries to search for the body but it is nowhere to be found.

The incident on the road serves as the first of a series of horrifying events — as the family even gets stranded in an isolated village on the way. There, Pat makes an alliance with a local named Dolfo (Enchong), an enigmatic but suspicious young man whom the villagers suspect to be someone who isn’t exactly human.

The film’s director, Lawrence Fajardo, has gained much acclaim over the years with his various visually-exciting indie works. Aside from The Strangers, he was also responsible for having directed the highly-acclaimed action-drama Amok and Posas, which won Best Film at the Hanoi International Film Festival in Vietnam.
