Jaya on Ogie’s transfer to TV5: ‘We’re behind him all the way’

Jaya

“At the end, things just fell into place.”

Thus Jaya said when asked about recent transfer of Ogie Alcasid from GMA 7 to TV5.

The “Sunday All Stars” mainstay added she, along with other Kapuso stars, will continue to support Ogie in his future endeavor as a Kapatid talent.

“We will be behind him all the way,” she said.

Jaya and Ogie have been long-time co-workers: first at the Sunday variety show “SOP,” then its subsequent replacement “Party Pilipinas.” They were also co-judges on the new Sunday show “Sunday All Stars” before Ogie’s contract with GMA 7 expired.

“Magkakaibigan kami e. We root for one another. Kung ano man ang mangyari sa kanya sa TV5, 'yung success n’ya dun, success naming lahat yan,” Jaya said.

She added they’re all excited for him in his new home network.

“It could be the start of many great things for him,” Jaya shared.

Ogie officially became a TV5 artist on Tuesday, August 6.

Bigger, better things

Would Jaya consider working for another network? The singer-actress wouldn’t close her doors, although she’s happy with GMA 7.

“Honestly, syempre minsan naiisip ko kung nasa iba akong channel. I’m happy with GMA 7. They’ve given me work for the past 15, 16 years,” she said.

Jaya does not have a contract with GMA 7, but the network has given her continuous work over the year. Still, she understands why talents like Ogie transfer networks.

“We’re also looking forward bigger and better things in the future, just like what Ogie is facing,” she said.

Karaoke crowd

Jaya talked to Philstar.com during the launch of Resorts World Manila’s Thrillathon, where she’s one of the many artists slated to perform at the Newport Mall Plaza every Friday night from August until November.

“I performed in a venue na akala mo, sosyal ang mga tao but rich or poor, young or old, what people crave for is to be entertained,” she said about adapting her set to the performance venue’s crowd.

She added the Filipino audience is an audience that just wants to sing along.

“Karaoke nation tayo e. You have to be singing songs na pwede lahat makikanta,” Jaya explained.
