Nice being good

Bot Glorioso - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Do not expect Kathryn Bernardo to accept a role without considering its effect on her image, knowing fully well that a lot of young viewers consider her as an inspiration.

“Even before, I’m careful with my image; I want to set a good example to the young. ‘Di na talaga nawawala yun sa isip ko,” said Kathryn after the presscon for her latest endorsement Juicy Cologne.

She even makes it a point to clearly send the message to young televiewers how much she values education by finding some time for school despite her busy schedule. That way, teeners like her will be reminded to keep the focus on their studies no matter what. Kathryn is taking up Marketing at Enderun Colleges.

“I’m thankful for being able to balance time between work and school. Kinakaya ko naman siya. Basta ’pag Tuesdays, I head straight to work after my morning class. Then on Saturdays, I blocked it off for my schooling the whole day. â€

Never mind, Kathryn adds, if there’s no time left to hang out with friends. She believes that “everything comes with a sacrifice.” That given all the blessings coming her way, it would be absurd to hear her complain.

Besides, Kathryn added, she’s not the type who would go out just for fun. “Kung social life lang naman, andito na yun sa trabaho, wala na kong dapat hanapin.”

Asked how does she decide on a role, Kathryn said she would not dare go for something that can put her image in a bad light. She also dreads the thought of doing some kissing scenes at this point.

“I think I play more mature character in Got to Believe (her latest TV series with Daniel Padilla set to air soon) than in Princess & I. Am I ready to do kissing scenes? I’m not yet sure if there are kissing scenes this time but I think bawal pa ’pag under 18. I’m only 17 so I’m still safe.”

How about when she turned 18?

“I don’t think I’m ready by that time because I feel it’s too early for me to do that. There are more roles that I can do, ’wag muna yun.”

Got to Believe was supposed to premiere last month but for some reason, the Kapamilya Network had decided to postpone its airing.

“For me, I think we were just given a longer time to make the project more beautiful. Para na din ’di mag hand to mouth kasi konti pa lang din yung nate-taping namin. But soon ipapalabas na din nila.”

She is certain the management knows what is best for the show.

According to a statement released recently through Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN’s integrated corporate communications division, the Kapamilya Network has decided to delay the airing of Got to Believe until enough episodes are canned.

Meanwhile, Kathryn delights at her being the first celebrity endorser of Juicy Cologne. The cologne brand has been in the market since 2005 but it is only now that it commissioned a celebrity to be its brand ambassador.

“Aside from Kathryn, we’ve considered two other young personalities to endorse the brand but among the three, Kathryn is the most fitting to represent Juicy Cologne. Her bubbly personality and wholesome image as one of today’s popular stars speak well for the brand,”said Hennie Anne Yu of Cosmetique Asia.

And how vain is Kathryn?

“I can’t say that I am super vain; that I would always look at myself in the mirror everytime I see one. I’m just taking good care of myself, especially when it comes to hygiene. After taping, I make sure to take a bath before going to bed no matter how sleepy I am. Pinalaki ako na maging malinis palagi lalo na babae ako.”

Juicy has eight variants — Icy licious, Sugar Frosting, Up, Up and Away, Angel’s Bliss, Sprightly Sprinkle, Orange Twist, Sweet Delights and Dreamsicle.
